Built for kids. So privacy comes first.
Sparky has not shipped a product yet. This page describes the very small amount of data we handle today (the waitlist) and the principles we will operate by when the device ships.
The short version
- Today the only thing this site does is run a free email waitlist. No payments. No children using anything. No voice. No device data.
- From the waitlist we collect only what you type into the form: your name, your email, and the age ranges of your kids. Nothing more.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or social networks. Ever.
- You can ask us to delete your record at any time by writing one line to hello@sparky.ai.
- The future Sparky device is designed so it works without ever profiling a child. That commitment is described in the "When the product ships" section below.
Right now: the waitlist
What we collect
- Your name (whatever you type — first name is fine).
- Your email address.
- Age ranges of your kids (e.g. "6–7", "8–10"). This is household-level information you provide as the parent. We do not collect your child's name, photo, voice, location, or any direct identifier.
- An optional free-text goal if you choose to fill it in.
- Technical metadata needed to run the site: your IP address is briefly visible to our hosting provider and is used only to prevent form spam. It is not stored alongside your waitlist record.
Why we collect it
To tell you when Sparky becomes available, to size the first production batch, and to ask a few of you for feedback if you opt in. That's it. Our legal basis under GDPR is your consent, given when you tick the box on the form. Under CCPA / CPRA this is treated as a request from you to be contacted.
Who can see it
A very small team at Sparky, and the service providers we rely on to run the site:
- Vercel — hosting of the website and the waitlist endpoint.
- An email delivery provider (to be finalized; named here as soon as it sends the first message). It will only be used to send you Sparky updates you asked for.
No advertisers. No data brokers. No social platforms. No analytics that profiles individuals. See the cookies page for the (very short) list of tools running on this site.
How long we keep it
Until you ask us to delete it, or until we decide Sparky is not going to ship — whichever comes first. If you unsubscribe, your record is deleted within 30 days.
Your rights today
You can, at any time:
- See what we have on you — write to hello@sparky.ai.
- Correct it.
- Delete it permanently.
- Unsubscribe and withdraw your consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you think we are mishandling your data.
These rights apply globally, regardless of where you live. We mirror the strongest jurisdiction (typically the EU under GDPR and California under CCPA / CPRA) and apply that standard to everyone. We aim to respond within five business days.
When the product ships
None of the data categories below are collected today. They are listed here so you can see what the product will look like and so there are no surprises later. A finalized privacy policy, reviewed by counsel, will be published before the first device ships.
Parent account data
Name, email, billing address, and payment method, collected from the verified parent at setup. Standard account infrastructure.
Child profile data
First name (or nickname), age range, preferred language(s), and the character your child chose. Provided by the parent. We do not plan to collect a child's real full name, school, address, or photo.
Voice interactions
Audio captured during conversation will be transcribed and used to generate a response. Transcripts are planned to be stored on a short rolling retention (typically 30 days) so parents can review, and so we can debug safety issues. Raw audio is not intended to be retained beyond the immediate transcription window. Voice will not be used to train third-party AI models.
What the product will never collect
- Photos or video of your child or your home.
- Location data beyond country-level (for language and shipping).
- Contacts, browsing history, or device sensors outside the cube itself.
- Behavioral profiles for advertising.
Children under 13 (COPPA)
COPPA regulates the collection of personal information from children under 13. Today this site does not collect any data from a child — the waitlist is filled in by an adult about their household, so COPPA does not apply to what is happening on this page right now.
The future Sparky device is designed for kids 6 to 10, which puts the product squarely under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We plan to require verifiable parental consent at setup, run no behavioral advertising, and give parents full access and deletion rights. See the COPPA page for the specific design commitments.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted (TLS 1.2+). Access to the small amount of waitlist data we hold is limited to the minimum number of people required. If anything affecting user data ever happens, we will publish what we know and notify affected people without unnecessary delay.
